Floor Prep

Floor preparation

Proper concrete surface preparation is the most important phase in any project. SBS Contracting performs all its own preparation for projects in-house. Our team is so skilled at this work that many times, we are called in to help others! Concrete floors take a beating, but they can be restored to new. It’s rare that we don’t run into a challenging situation.

Old tile or carpet is removed revealing all kinds of issues. Mastic and carpet glue needs to be removed. Floors have issues due to moisture transmission via capillary or hydrodrostatic pressure that need to be cured. Floors develop cracks or other damage. Every floor needs a solution.

We remove old ceramic or vinyl tile using specialized high production equipment. Then we grind the surface with coarse diamond blades to remove the mastic and glues on the surface. In some situations we need to grind the top surface of the concrete removing the glues that have settled into the pores of the concrete. Then we can assess the situation to determine the appropriate solution whether a polish, self leveling application , micro topping or epoxy.

Crack repair is more than just filling what can be seen with something sticky. In some cases cracks can be part of the actual design. In others we need to fill the crack all the way to the bottom. If a slab is 4 inches thick, that’s how deep a crack goes. Hairline cracks may be at the surface but usually go all the way through.

We use specific fillers that flow to the bottom of the crack with the capability of curing below grade, activated by moisture in the concrete. We provide long term solutions, not short term fixes. We are well equipped with high performance equipment and the experience to grind or shot blast the surface. Most floors require a combination of specialized machinery to solve a problem. Areas at walls, stairways and columns are dealt with care and patience to achieve a high quality.

SBS Contracting self-contained shot blast and scarification units maintain a dust-free, safe environment. We remove all types of industrial contaminants: Grease, dirt, paint, tar, adhesives, epoxy, urethane, and heavy industrial coatings.

Contaminated surface debris is removed and fed into a sealed self-contained collection system for proper disposal. This means you have a clean, dry surface ready for immediate application.
